the sale of indulgences---- purgatory was a waiting room to go to hell or heaven and to be sent to heaven they and to pay money

the 95 theses---- martin Luther wrote a book about 95 objections to the sale of indulgences

martin Luther was born in 1483 Saxony Germany. trained as a priest then became a teacher. he believed that you get in to heaven by just preying and believing called ' justification by faith alone '

consequences of Luther's protest ---- started a war of religion in 1545 and ended in 1455 with a treaty of ausburg

jean Calvin---- was born in France 1509 he was a religious man.

laws of calvins church.. attend church on Sundays..... entertainment banned.... swearing was a crime..... dress was restricted.... heretics were burned

the protestants reformation spread fast causing the counter reformation

the inquisition was a court held to deal with heretics

ended in the seventeenth century

navigation --- compass--astrolabes and quadrants were used to work out the ships latitude portolan charts wee early maps of the sea--log,line and knots helped determine the ships speed and distance

Bartholomeu Dias-- discovered the bottom of Africa and called it the cape of storms but renamed the cape of good hope

Christopher Columbus was born Genoa 1451, thought the earth was round.given the Nina pinta and Santa maria.voyage began on 3rd of august 1492.

on 12th of September 1492 he thought he was in India. but was in america. he called the natives indians

returned to Spain in march 1495

most of his crew died and he Columbus died in 1506
