The extraction of the minerals can cause terrible effects, for example in local communities it can cause water contamination, particularly downstream.
People have to be moved off their land to make way for roads and space so large machinery can come thorugh
Tourism
Because of the interesting cites and animals in the rainforests this can lead to other things
Hotels are built in vunrable areas.
Roads have to be built so areas of land and habitats are destroyed
Ape communities in Indonesia have started to become vulnerable to human diseases because tourists have offered them food.

The Amazonian Highway has resulted in 400Km wide expanse of forest to be cut down
A road building project in the Congo has resulted in 50,000KM of trees to be cut down.
Road building allows thing to happen in the rain forest. It means that deforestation can happen.
