Feedback
Information that a performer receives. It can come before or after a performer and can come from a variety of sources:
Positive & Negative
Knowledge of results/performance
Extrinsic/Intrinsic
Knowledge of results
Knowledge of results (KR) focuses on success of outcome. Generally factual and given by a coach or teacher.
May be obvious to an elite athlete, but a beginner may need this feedback to understand whether what they did was a success or not.
Knowledge of performance
Provides detail of success irrespective of results
May relate to technique used or specific aspects of the movement produced
Deals with the quality of the performance and not the result
Positive & Negative
Negative Feedback
Used to inform what was incorrect about the movement
Must contain corrective information
Extrinsic Feedback
Information received which comes from outside of the performer
May come from fellow perfromers or spectators
Generally given verbally or on a scoreboard
Beginners rely heavily on external feedback from others
Positive feedback
Used to inform what was correct about the movement
Provides a reference point for future attempts
Essential in motivating athletes
Intrinsic Feedback
Information received which comes from within the performer
As beginners progress to elite they can interpret this information
The feeling or sense that the movement of muscles/joints has gone well or not is called KINESTHESIS
Personality Types
Introvert
Does not need high levels of arousal
Become over aroused when overstimulated
Tend to be shy,quiet,thoughtful and solitary
Tend to play individualsports
Extrovert
Needs high level of arousal
Can lack concentration and seek excitement
Tend to enjoy interaction with others
Are sociable and aroused by others
Often enthusiastic,talkative and prone to boredom when isolated

Arousal
A physical and mental (physiological and psychological) state of alertness/excitement varying from deep sleep to intense excitement
Affects the physical and mental state of the performer
Physical = Rise in heart rate sweat
Strategies are required to control it.
Performance can suffer if arousal levels are not right
