        Abolished feudalism and eliminated the shogunate 幕府
        
        The Emperor once became the head of the country.
        
        Created a centralized, bureaucratic government to encourage loyalty to the emperor in order to establish real imperial power.
        
        Japan's 1st Western-style constitution (1889), followed by the country's first elected Diet (national parliament日本國會).
        
        The structure of the government is based on Prussia (Modern Day Germany)
        
        Military
        
        Japan reformed its military by adapting western technology.
        
        Before modernization, Japan was defended by Samurais.
        
        After the modernization, Meiji introduced military conscription in 1873. All male citizens over the age of 20 had to serve in the military. (Provided benefits such as more food allowance and better living conditions)
        
        The new modern military received western styled training and was trained to use the latest weapons.
        
        The military was based on Prussia’s (German) military.
        
        Ships and cannons bought from Germany and England
        
        Economy
        
        Japan completely westernized itself in 1873 and open itself to trade.
        
        Industrial sector growing rapidly
        
        Japanese textiles became competitors with British textile products made in China and India.
        
        The government subsidized (資助）businessman. The government built the factories but sold factories to businessman at a cheaper price.
        
        A well-developed transport and communication system
