        From both sides of their cultures, they endured ridicule and that's what they want to convey to their audience: racism and ridicule is not dead. That is the explanation of the topic sentence.

        "Minhaj’s ridicule had worsened after the 11th of September in 2001. He and his family received death threats over the phone and his car had been vandalized in one specific occurrence. Following this as his father is cleaning the glass from their vandalized car, his father tells him that this is the price that his family, as Muslim immigrants, must pay. Minhaj’s response to that, as he said in his Netflix special, was: 'I was born here so I actually have the audacity of equality.'"
        
        This is something that would scare anyone. Someone personally attacked Minhaj and his family at his home. My home would have no longer felt safe it were me, but he got angry and wanted justice. He knew they were in the wrong and he also knew that as a Muslim Indian American, with an immigrant family, that was unheard of.

        I experience this as a Chicano myself and this will definitely get her audience to understand that racism still exists and give a new light to people who are American but hold another culture as well.
