up to 13th century- moorish influence very cultured-jewish, christians and muslims scholars ended in 1492- jews and muslims driven out of spain (reconquista)
after 1500- religious beliefs and practices
almost all roman catholic- one god, heaven and hell, sin and confession
no other religions were allowed
focused on suffering of Jesus, they admired people who suffered and had courage for their faith such as conquistadors
inconsition- trial of heretics-in the public square with big audience- guilty burnt of stake
