Animal Reproduction (Humans) (What happens during and after fertilization?…
Animal Reproduction (Humans)
How do humans reproduce?
By the process of sexual reproduction in which the male and female mate and their reproductive cells meet
Human Reproductive System
Formed by the organs involved in reproduction
Female reproductive system
Womb
Is where the fertilized egg develops
Vagina
Is a muscular tube leading from the womb out of the female body
Ovary
Develop and produce female reproductive cells
Male reproductive system
Testis
Develop and reduce male reproductive cells
Penis
Helps to transfer the sperms into the female body
What happens during and after fertilization?
During mating, sperms from the male testes are released into the female vagina through the penis
The sperms travel towards the egg by swimming using their tails
Only one sperm fuses with one egg and after that, the egg is said to be fertilized
The fertilized egg divides to form many cells and a baby develops from these cells in the mother's womb for about 9 months
The developing baby is connected to the mother by an umbilical cord, which supplies nourishment and oxygen to the baby, as well as remove waste products from the baby's body
Similarities betweeen Human Reproduction & Sexual Reproduction in Flowering Plants
Involve both male and female reproductive parts
Fertilization occurs when the male and female reproductive cells fuse
Characteristics are passed on from the parents to the young through sexual reproduction
