Do schools kill creativity?
human creativity
creativity is as important in education as literacy
we should treat creativity with the same status of literacy
creativity is the process of having original ideas that have value
if you don't prepare to be wrong, you will never come up with anything original
but by the time we get to be adult, most kids have lost this capacity
educating people are out of their creative capacities
we don't grow into creativity, we grow out of it
what I like & what he did well
using his own experirnces
doing gestures
taking eye contact
having some questions to the audience
having a lot of jokes
talking in a lively voice
talking confidently
having some hooks
what I don't like and what he didn't do well
talking too fast
he often digresses
difficult to understand his jokes
putting his one hand in his pocket
every education system on earth has the same hierarchy of subjects
the whole purpose of public education
to produce the university professors
our education system is predicated on the idea of academic ability
reasons
invented before the 19th centry
made to meet the needs of industrialism
the most useful subjects for work are at the top
academic ability has really come to dominate
the whole system of public education around the world is a protracted process of the university entrance
arts are as important as math
we need to radically rethink our view of intelligence
about intelligence
diverse
we think about the world all of the way that we experience
dynamic
intelligence is wonderfully interactive
distinct
our only hope for the future
be careful now that we use our imagination
seeing our creative capacities for the richness they are
seeing our children for the hope that they are
our task is to educate children's whole being
adopt a new conception of human ecology
