What Impact Did The Early Colonial Settlers have on the Environment?
Looking after the Land
British tried to change the Aboriginal Australian traditional way of farming.
Excessive land clearing, overgrazing, inappropriate watering systems
Led to many areas of Australia suffering land degradation
In form of soil erosion, soil salinity and water logging
British didn't want to follow the Aboriginal Australian way of farming. British ignored them and destroyed land like they did in Great Britain.
British introduced plants like blackberries which caused disaster among species of nature.

Before the British arrivved the methods of agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture that Indiginous were using were crop-growing, fish-trapping and controlled burning (‘fire-stick farming’). This was done to make an impact and to improve the wellbeing of the emviroment and natives.
What is agriculture, horticulture and aquaculture?
Agriculture: The process of cultivating the land using natural resources
Horticulture: The process of garden cultivation
Aquaculture: The rearing of aquatic sea creatures or cultivation of sea plants for food
British Ways of Living
When the British came to Australia they're methods of cultivation, farming livestock and crops were unsuited to the bare land. Governer Phillip had ordered his men to cut the trees using English axes- unsuccesful, because they were were blunt from the Australian timbers so they achieved by sawing the tree's to land clear and stumps were removed by convict labourers.

British didn't like the animals in Australia so they brought in different animals.
British destructed many animals including rabbits, dingoes and kangaroos. Aboriginal Australians would use animals sparingly, not destroying so many at a time.
British brought in many other animals e.g rabbits, foxes and mice. They have caused chaos among species of nature.
