- - - - Blood vessel walls become more permeable and allow exudate (a fluid made of serum, fibrin, and white blood cells) to come out of the tissues and help with clotting to stop infections spreading. It also contains antibodies to destroy invading microorganisms
        
        As the exudate(?) comes out of the blood vessels, the flow of blood gets slower because white blood cells fall out of the central stream in the blood vessels to nearer the vessel wall. They then move outside the blood vessel wall.
        
        These white blood cells (aka leukocytes) are mostly made up of phagocytes - phagocyte means 'cell eater'. They eat bacteria, other foreign particles and any cellular mess caused by the injury. "In the blood, two types of white blood cells, neutrophilic leukocytes (microphages) and monocytes (macrophages), are phagocytic. "
