Biosphere

START HERE: By 2070, it is suspected that 1/3 of the parasite population will be extinct. These prospects may not seem grim, but in fact quite the opposite. Parasites play a major role in keeping the population numbers down in other organisms. It keeps other animal populations which provides a delicate ecological balance.

Researchers believe that parasites are responsible for the evolutionary change of thousands of species because "hosts and parasites are in a constant evolutionary arms race, which pushes both of them to get better at surviving" says Levi Morran of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Atmosphere
Climate change is expected to be a major contributing factor in the mass decline of the parasite population. Parasites are also affected by fossil fuels and pollution because like any other organism, they fail to thrive when their ideal environment is changed.

.
Researchers have created a digital database which now stands as the largest parasite database. They have been able to make a very educated prediction on how climate change will affect more than 450 different species based on their research on them over the last two centuries.
Hydrosphere
.
.
This also applies to the hydrosphere because there are millions of parasites in the watersheds and oceans. These parasites keep the population of fish down.
The parasites in the ocean also affect the consumers of their hosts. For example when a human eats a fish that was infected by a parasite, it now has a pathogen and will cause the human to fall ill.
Geosphere
Several different parasite live within the soil and the ground. They play a key role in breaking down dead plant and animal matter.
