deliberately broke the law to be arrested and put his case against fundamentalism

the trial captured public immagination

Scopes was convicted of breaking the law

Americans Fundamentalism itself was on trial, and lost

anti-evolutionists were subjected to great mockery

after the trial, the anti-evolution lobby never recovered
