More than 3,300 illegal abalone were seized in Western Sydney as part of a joint operation between the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and NSW Police.
Officers intercepted a 59-year-old man from Mogo, New South Wales in the Sydney suburb of Berala.

Forty kilograms of shark fin was also seized and investigations are underway into how it was sourced.
Meanwhile, 645 abalone of a prohibited size were found at a seafood restaurant in Western Sydney.

Both men are facing a range of charges including trafficking fish, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
They may also have to pay a fine of ten times the market value of the illegal abalone, which is estimated at $57,000.
