-
why the title?
both protagonists are proud: Elizabeth is proud to be a good judge of character; Darcy is proud of his social standing
both protagonists are prejudiced: Elizabeth dislikes Darcy without really knowing him; Darcy is prejudiced by his upbringing
in the end both characters manage to mitigate their pride and their prejudice through reflection, reason and compassion
the characters
Elizabeth has a lively mind and has a strong sense of independence. However she is stubborn and prejudiced against Darcy
Darcy knows the principles of correct conduct and can be generous, though he's also unsociable and prejudiced against Elizabeth's family; he looks down on people
Mrs Bennet is simple-minded; she likes to gossip and is obsessed by the idea of having to find an eligible husband for her five daughters; she is often subject to her "nerves"
Mr Bennet likes to tease his wife and will not give in to her obsession about finding husbands for their daughters; his favourite daughter is Elizabeth
