Causes and Major Changes
The Enlightenment was caused by a better understanding of the world from the Scientific revolution. Philosophers wanted to apply reason in everyday lives. People now started to have natural rights and the new way of ruling made for better lives.
Effects
Society
Female thinkers started to emerge during the Enlightenment. They were starting to express their ideas about improving the condition of women's rights. Thinkers like Mary Wollstonecraft argued that the main Enlightenment idea was the rights of all humans and that it should include women.
A greater amount of people started to read. Most of the books before were directed to the educated upper-class. Published works had became aim to the middle class women and urban artisans.
Politics
Enlightened Absolutism, a new type of monarchy started in the late eighteenth century. Rulers would govern by Enlightenment ideas.
Economics
The concept of laissez-faire was created during the Middle Ages. It is the idea that the state should not impose on economics and government regulations.
