They fort to gain control of the Holly Land wtich is now known as Israel, Lebanos and Syria.
The first five was to try to gain control of sacred sites around Jerusalem. these sites were sacred to Jews, Muslims and Christians .

When the Seljuk Turks a military group invaded the city no one still had a good relationship with the Arabs.
The Seljuk Turks stoped Jews and Christians from going into Jerusalem. They did not allow people to visit the sacred places and stoped any pilgrimages people may have been on.

When the Christians fort bake agains the Turks it started a chain reaction that led to bloody battles between the different groups
The only up side to. years of battle is that the Christians crusaders returned to Europe with new goods and ideas they had never seen before.

TARA
Catholicism was the only known religion of Christianity, led by the Pope in Rome. This religion became so popular after all this spreading and travelling that eventually it was common for believers to pray up to FIVE HOURS A DAY!
In Europes medieval period, christian missionaries travelled around and spread the religion.
Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus. People believed that if you believed and obeyed the faith you would go to heaven after death but if not you would go to hell.

When Roman Empire collapsed in 476 CE, people were left with no laws and structure.

A war broke out between the Catholics and Muslims when they were demanding control of certain religious sites. This war was named The Crusades in which thousands of new Catholics volunteered to fight in.
