Food enters through the mouth and is broken down by teeth and saliva

Food is moved down esophagus

Stomach breaks down food again through muscle contractions and stomach acid.

The small intestine absorbs nutrients and further breaks down the food.

The large intestine wicks away liquids and compresses food into feces

Rectum stores the feces until it can be expelled from the body

Anus expels feces from the body

Air is inhaled through the mouth or nose

Air reaches the pharynx. Both food and oxygen pass through the pharynx

Air then passes through the Larynx (voice box)

Air travels down the trachea towards the bronchi

Air reaches the Bronchi where it splits into two bronchioles

Bronchioles transport air to the alveoli

In the alveoli, oxygen is mixed into the blood stream and carbon dioxide waste is removed from blood in order to be

De-oxygenated blood enters the hearth through the right atrium

blood is pumped into the left ventricle before being pumped out to the lungs via the pulmonary arteries

Oxygenated air returns from the lungs in the pulmonary veins, and into the left atrium

Then the blood is pushed into the left ventricle before being pumped out to the rest of the body via the aorta
