- new and increased relationships that have been created between people, social networks and ideas go beyond traditional national state boarders. EG people in some traditional societies are now exposed to modern technologies
- people are linked in new ways as both the production of good as well as the flow of financial capital and their consumption, take place 24 hours a day in the world. E.G- workers in developing countries may find themselves employed by the same transnational corporations
- Global events and issues have become local events and issues because of the speed of communication and the expectation of immediate contact
BELL- there has never been a form of global media with the power to report & disseminate events with the speed and geographic reach of twitter
