Groups of periodic table
Halogens
Alkali metals
There are
Noble gases
There are 5 gases in this group
these include Helium, argon, xenon and radon
Most of the gases are rare and only found in our atmosphere
Helium however is also in the Earth's crust
Each individual gas has different uses
helium can be used to cool machines down, such as the large hadron collider
Neon is extremely nonreactive but when electricity is passed through makes a bright light. It is used in neon signs
Argon is a good insulator and is used between window panes
A krypton compound, krypton fluoride, is used in making lasers for dentistry
Xenon is used when electricity is passed through and creates a bright light. It is used in lighting
Radon is radioactive and is used in various forms of cancer treatment
All gases have similar properties
Most noble gases are unreactive
However, some gases can react with other elements
For example, krypton reacts with fluorine
Xenon can react with oxygen and fluorine
