Psychoanalisys
Psychoanalytic approaches to ID:Human Behaviour is governed by unconscious forces and biological drives.
-
Structure of personality
EGO: developed later. Can be thought like the executive part of personality. It operates according to the reality principle.

Levels of consciousness
-
Preconscious thought: thought that are unconscious at this instant but can be recalled at consciousness at any given time
Unconscious: thoughts, memories, feelings, urges and fantasies that are being actively kept (by repression) in our unconscious.
-
Defence Mechanism : because of the intra-psychic tension we use defense mechanism to protect our ego adn protect our self esteem.
-
Displacement: is when we are afraid to manifest the feeling directly to the person so we put them somewhere else.
Reaction Formation: to overcome impulses that are unacceptable to us we gain mastery by exaggerating the opposing feeling. e.g. Monica and ther cupboard mess
Sublimation: the most advance defence mechanism. It permits partial expression of unconscious drives. e.g firemen sublimate their desire to urinate in public.
