Jacquard Loom-Textile and Fashion; first use of binary code.

“Turing Machine”- Mathematical model of computation; a machine that can calculate any problem involving computation and can solve any algorithm.

J.V. Atanasoff / Clifford Berry-First automatic electric digital computer; designed to solve systems of linear equations.

ENIAC- Amongst the earliest electronic computers used for general things; designed and primarily used to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory.

COBOL / FORTRAN- Computer-Programming language; COBOL is used for most commercial programming applications and FORTRAN is the most widely used scientific programming language.

Integrated Circuit- An electronic circuit; used to control the flow of the current within a circuit.

GUI- Graphical user interface; allows people to interact on a computer through graphical icons.

DRAM- Dynamic random-access memory; stores each bit of data in a separate tiny capacitor within an integrated circuit.

Floppy Disk-Disk storage; removable magnetic disk that is used to store data.

Ethernet-System used to connect multiple devices to form a local area network; allows systems to communicate.

The Personal Computer- Individual use computer; does not require one device to be shared among multiple people.

Microsoft-Technology company; global vendor for computer software.

Apple-Technology company; develops multiple electronic devices.

VisiCalc - Visible Calculator; first spreadsheet computer program for personal computers.
WordStar- Computer application; first program to give full word processing capabilities to personal computer users.

Apple “Lisa”- Desktop computer; one of the first personal computers to offer a graphical user interface in a machine aimed at individual business users.

Microsoft Windows- Computer operating system; Each version of Windows includes a graphical user interface, with a desktop that allows users to view files and folders in windows.

Symbolics.com-Two companies; World's first and oldest registered domain name on the Internet.

HTML- Programming language; the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications.

Google- Technology company; American multinational technology company that specializes in Internet-related services and products.

Wi-Fi- Wireless fidelity; a facility allowing computers, smartphones, or other devices to connect to the Internet or communicate with one another wirelessly within a particular area.

Facebook- Social network company; website that allows you to share what is going on in your life to other people.

YouTube-Video sharing company; where you can listen to any music you want and find other videos that are either stupid or helpful.

iPhone- Smartphone made by Apple; combines a computer, iPod, digital camera and cellular phone into one device with a touchscreen interface.

iPad- Large tablet created by Apple; similar to an iPod but since it has a bigger screen it allows it to be used like a computer.
