they can be sued for breach of contract and negligent work - WHITE V JONES (1995) when they failed to write a will after being asked to do so and daughters sued
law society used to deal with complaints but this was conflict of interests. legal services act 2007 made the office for legal complaints and most members arent lawyers so can be impartial.
Ombudsman can make solicitor apologise to client,return documents, reduce fees, do extra work and even pay compensation
