Transport and Communication
Road
The Romans built straight roads from one place to another.
The roads may change route slightly if there is an object in the way. But the road is never curved, always straight.
Structure of a road
The bottom layer was made of large stones called footing
The second layer was smaller stones
The is also a surface layer on top of this and is usually large slabs of stone.
There is a drainage ditch on either side of the road to get rid of water. The road is also slightly curved.
