Major Causes of WWI
European rivalries
The nations of Europe were competing for dominance. They competed for economically, colonies, and militarily so they could be the strongest.

Militarism
Militarism is the building up of ones country. There was competition between Germany and Great Britain. They fought to be the strongest and biggest military.

Alliances
The triple entente which was Great Britain, Russia, and France. So if any of these countries went to war they would all protect the country and go into war with them.
Triple alliance which was Italy, Austria-Hungary, and Germany. If either of these countries broke out into war they would all have to go into war with them.

How WWI started
Austria- Hungary invaded Serbia because the serbian government was involved with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Russia then got involved to help Serbia and Germany got involved to go against the Russians. Britain and France got involved to help the Russians. It all started because of the alliances.

Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. An example was Britain taking over Africa, India, and China.
