COMPONENTS AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS
COMPONENTS AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS
a computer consist of
hardware and software.
HARDWARE
I is the physical components of a computer.
SOFTWARE** is the non -physical coded programs that controls now HARDWARE functions.
there are
two types of software :
application and system software
APPLICATION SOFTWARE :
produces something useful (eg. a powerpoint or word processed document)
SYSTEM SOFTWARE:
allow computer systems to run and function properly
a computer system consist of
input , processing, output, and storage devices
User interface
is the way in which a person interacts with a computer system.
TYPES OF COMPUTERS:
Desktop PC, Laptop, Mobile phone, Tablet
COMPUTER COMPONENTS:
are the pieces of electrical hardware that join to form a computer system.
INTERNAL COMPONENTS
: Motherboard, CPU, RAM, ROM, Video card, Sound card, Storage
MOTHERBOARD:
Central to the computer
connected to all other components
allows components to communicate via BUS network
CPU
:
central processing unit
brain of computer
calculates and processes data
OPERATING SYSTEMS
: are the interface between user and hardware components. They allow components to communicate and for computers to run applications
TASK OF AN OPERATING SYSTEM
:
allow people to use computers
loads / runs software
accepts command from keyboard / mouse
manages computer security
manages folders and files
TYPES OF OPERATING SYSTEMS
: Command line interface (CLI), Graphical user interface (GUI), Touch screen interface (post - WIMP)
EMERGING TECH:
are new technologies that are currently being developed and will change / have an effect on business and social environments.
TYPES
: artificial intelligence, biometrics, robotics, quantum cryptography, 3D and holographic imaging, virtual reality
Artificial intelligence
: is computers simulating human intelligence
Biometrics:
using body parts to identify people
Robotics:
computer / machines carrying out human task
Quantum cryptography:
sending messages with complete privacy
Computer aided translation:
using comps to translate languages
3D and Holographic imaging:
making images appear 3- Dimentional
Virtual Reality (VR):
comps create virtual environment that users can interact with
