Definition of Kauri Dieback
Phytophthora Agathidicida, discovered in 2009, is the pathogen which causes Kauri dieback. The pathogens are attracted to kauri tree roots and can easily be spread by only a pinhead of soil. This disease kills pretty much every tree it infects and no cure for it has been discovered yet. Our Kauri trees are now threated to extinction by the Kauri Dieback disease.
Why is Kauri Dieback an issue
Kauri Dieback is an issue because it is killing New Zealands Kauri trees.
We need to protect these trees because Kauri trees are part of Maori ancient culture/tradition
