energy
threre are two kinds of energy:
renewable
biomass
Energy and kids. Biomass is organic material which has stored sunlight in the form of chemical energy. Biomass fuels include wood, wood waste, straw, manure, sugar cane, and many other byproducts from a variety of agricultural processes.
solar
Energy and kids. “Solar” is the Latin word for “sun” – and it's a powerful source of energy. In fact, the sunlight that shines on the Earth in just one hour could meet world energy demand for an entire year! We can use solar power in two different ways: as a heat source, and as an energy source.
hyrdro electric
Energy and kids. Hydropower is a clean, renewable and reliable energy source which converts kinetic energy from falling water into electricity, without consuming more water than is produced by nature. Quite simply the oldest method by which renewable energy has been harnessed by the human race.
wind
Wind power involves turning energy from the wind into other forms of useful energy. Wind power can be harnessed in a number of different ways. For example, windmills create mechanical energy, sails move boats and wind turbines generate electricity.
tidal
Turbines are machines that change the power of moving air or water into usable energy. Tidal turbines are placed in the path of the ocean tides. As the tides change, water moves past the turbine, causing its blades to spin. This movement is transferred to a generator that converts the movement energy into electricity.
geothermal
This heat sometimes breaks through to the surface of the Earth through volcanoes or geysers. When we use heat from the Earth to generate energy it's called geothermal energy. The name geothermal is a combination of the word "geo", which means earth, and "thermal", which means heat.
non renewable
fossil fuels

Fossil fuels are essentially the remains of plants of animals. They provide us with a source of nonrenewable energy. Fossil fuels can either come in the form of an oil, coal, or natural gas. They are the result of the decomposition of dead plant and animal matter buried deep in the Earth's crust.
nuclear energy
energy is the ability to do work
there are different
forms
of energy
heat energy
Gravitational potential energy, or GPE, is energy that is stored because of an object's position or height above Earth's surface. Gravity is the force of attraction that pulls objects together and causes things to fall to Earth.
light energy
Heat energy, also called thermal energy, is the energy an object has because of the movement of its molecules, and heat can be transferred from one object to another object. Heat energy on Earth comes from the sun.
sound energy
Sound is produced when a force causes an object or substance to vibrate
chemical energy
energy may be stored in chemicals. explosives release this energy very fast
electrical energy
Electrical energy can be used to move charged particles through a wire from a power plant to our homes and businesses. The movement of a charged particle through a wire is called current, or more commonly, electricity. Electricity is used to work various appliances in our homes.
kinectic energy
kinectic energy is energy in motion. moving water and wind are examples of kinectic energy
nuclear energy
Nuclear power plants use the heat released from fission to make electricity. By splitting uranium atoms into two smaller atoms, the extra energy is released as heat. Uranium is a mineral rock, a very dense metal found in the ground, and it is non-renewable.
