The student in particularly enjoys music, this has become the muse for this lesson as the student expressed high interest in music and was also found to remember lyrics which is amazing as the student found it difficult to remember memories from her recent holiday, this particular lesson (being centered around music will drive the students lesson performance).

Instructions
• Teacher will play different songs to the class
• Students will listen
• Once the song is finished students will list the metaphors and similes they heard in the song
• Students will gather in groups and discuss what they heard (how many lyrics and metaphors they heard)
• Students will watch/listen to the video
• And in groups discuss how many they noticed similes they found watching the video that they did not notice when only listening to the song
20 Objects
Instructions
• Place 20 objects on a desk
• Ask students to come and have a look at the items
• Cover the items with a sheet
• Ask students to name the 20 items under the sheet
• Students could write this list down
• This can introduce the students their weekly spelling words

Instructions
• Teacher will choose a theme i.e. the zoo/ think of a song lyric that contains a metaphor, simile, personification
• Students will throw a ball around to their peers
• As a student receives the ball the student will have to think of a word/lyric which goes with the theme i.e. zookeeper/ Katy Perry’s song Fireworks the song lyric: ‘Do you ever feel so paper thin’
• An additional rule which enhances engagement allows students to change the topic upon receiving the ball

Tasks
• Students will view the refresher video (which includes similes & metaphors)
• Students will get their notebooks out and prepare to take notes for the following video
• Students will view the fireworks video clip by Katy Perry (which is student friendly)
• As a class students will discuss the comparisons they noticed in the video (comparing the difference between similes and metaphors
• Students will be handed popsicle sticks and search for their group partners
• As a group the students will select an anthem
• Students will begin analysing these anthems looking for similes, metaphors, and personifications
• Students will make finalised copies which include a key code and print two other copies of the anthem lyrics (which are not marked)
• Students will swap their blank anthem sheets with another group and attempt to find the similes, metaphors, and personifications within the anthem
• To finalise the learning students will be able to use their peers key coded anthem worksheet to mark their work
Catering for diversity
• Students have been provided equal time to complete all the tasks however, Students who struggle to think of poem ideas are provided with extra time
• Students will be placed in diverse groups
• Students will learn more about different cultures and what they believe in and display in their anthems
