who was later executed and was also a Girondist supporter

(killed due to his beliefs as a montagnards)
was not a popular person as a
politician and journalist
and physician
became an
extremely influential voice
through being an editor in the newspaper 'L'ami du peuple' / the freind of the people
Created in April 1793
but was
reconstructed in July 1973
as the defacto executive government
Was made to
'protect' against foreign attacks and internal counter-revolution activity
The Committee of Public Safety also
operated the Guillotine
- of which there were 7 travelling guillotines
Robespierre
was a lawyer and a
Jacobin extremist -
fought to rid of the monarchy, nobility and the church
Robespierre also advocated for the
'purity' of the working class
Robespierre also radicalised the revolution which plunged France into 'The Terror'
which ended with the execution of all of the Committee of Public Safety
Monarchy
were very rich - living a life of luxury
Taxation
- 3 estates of which paid different amounts of taxes
1st = no tax
|
2nd = little amount of tax
|
3rd = a lot of tax
- 3rd estate consisted of the public majority who were mostly working class
Louis XVI (16th) and Marie Antoinette
in reign and then beheaded
Other monarchies did not think that the French would actually go ahead with executing the monarchs - this
struck fear into other monarchies
with the fear that their public would retaliate against them.
LIBERTÉ | EGALITÉ | FRATERNITÉ
MONTAGNARDS=
were the extreme radicalist of the Jacobins and strongly opposed the Girondists
GIRONDIN=
were for the constitutional monarchy and were of the right wing - soon deteriorated due to the Royal Family breaking the oath and attempting to flee France for Austria
JACOBINS=
were the radical left wings of the revolution who opposed the Girondists - they wanted the monarchy out of absolute power.
