impacts of the 6 factors on river regime
Heavy rain
It will not sink into the ground
When it doesnt sink into the ground it will overflow onto land and reach the rivers
vegetation and land use
Trees and plants intercept and stop some of the rain from reaching the ground.
Bare soil and rocks speed up run off and reduces time lag
Temperature
It affects the form of precipitation
If it is very cold, precipitation will form as snow
If the ground stays frozen due the snow can reach the rivers easily
This can takes weeks maybe months to melt as it is cold
Steep slopes
They cause rapid surface run off so water will reach the rivers quickly
Flat and gently sloping land may lead to water sinking into the soil
Rock type
Impermeable
rocks will not allow water to sink into them so it will speed up the run off
Permeable
allow infiltration of water into the bedrock which slows delivery of water
Human intervention
Dams and reservoirs are the biggest human interventions in river regimes. by holing back the discharge they reduce the downstream flow of water
