Destructive Forces
Earthquake
Sometimes causes Tsuamis
Earthquakes are caused when a oceanic plate hits a continental plate. When the oceanic plate is heavier it goes underneath the congenital plate and the force makes a earthquake. The earthquake lifts part of the ocean floor up making sea level rise causing a Tsunami
Hurricanes
Hurricanes are something called a tropical cyclones over the warmest parts of the ocean
If the wind speed is 74-95 mph it is category If the wind speed is 96-110 mph it is category 2 If the wind speed is 111-129 mph it is category 3 If the wind speed is 130-156 mph it is category 4 If the wind speed is 157 mph or more it is category

Tsunami
Tsunamis are often caused by
Landslides
Volcanic Eruptions
Earthquakes
Tsunamis Damage the ocean by it's current
What Tsunami mean: In Japanese Tsu means Harbor and Nami means wave
Oil Spills
Oil Spills cause pollution
Now people often use electric cars because we try to take care of life below water
Coral
Fact about coral
Corals are Sessile witch means they can't move
They are the same family as jelly fish
Coral a Cnidaria phylum
They are like houses for fish
They need warm water to survive
If coral die fish will die
what will happen
If there was no more coral in the ocean all fish can die because they don't have a home
Are ocean won't be as pretty also
life below water will be limited
Great Barrier Reef
People say that we are killing the Great Barrier Reef so we want to save it instead
Fresh Water
In the world there are only 3% of fresh water
Fresh Water is all in
Glaciers
snow caps
Ice Bergs
We waste 100 gallons
More than one billion people don't have clean water
Reasons
The population is growing
People use more water than you need
two-thirds of the water we use is the water we don't need
taking long shower
Leaving water running
Factories use millions of liters of water a day
Farms use a lot of water
What you can do to help
Take shorter showers
turn the water off when not in use
don't take baths they use more water than showers
if you open your eyes and it gets red it is because of Sweat
Sweat contains nitrogenous compounds like urea
What is pollution
No wear in the ocean is safe form pollution
Pollution is trash or plastic people litter and goes in the ocean
what waste can do
Waste can be dissolved also dispersed
It can also be recycled
what is so bad about pollution
fish or other sea animals think it is food, they eat them and die if they eat to much
It takes millions of years for plastic to break down
Pollution goes to the bottom of the ocean
Global Warming
what is global warming
a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth's atmosphere generally attributed to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants
Layers of the green house gases become thicker
Greenhouse gases trap more heat
Increase temperature on earth
The thicker layer of the greenhouse gases trap more heat. This results in an increase of temperature of the earth and the earth becomes hotter. It's called global warming.
Steps to reduce global warming
Plant more trees
Reduce, reuse, and recycle
use less hot water
Turn off electronic devices when not in use
Spread awareness
Waste Management
Hazardous waste has to be thrown away a special way
Facts
Refuse is collected once a week
Incineration is where Refuse is burned
All waste must be a part a way from water so they don't get polluted
Refuse is non-hazardous waste
Green house effect
What is the green house effect
