- - - - Rhyming Word Wall: The teacher will place a piece of large paper up on the whiteboard and children have to match the rhyming words with the title of the specific column. For example if the title of the column is fox, then children will find all the words which rhyme with fox and place them in this column. This can be completed as a group activity at first.       - Read the story to the child using emotion cards while reading it. The children after can use art materials to create their favourite animal from the story. The children can write up to two simple sentences about how the snail might be feeling in this part of the story and why. (ACELA1435)/(ACAVAR109)

  - - - Model to the children writing simple letters with them. This could be from “The Gruffalo” or from texts where they have been exploring animals in the wild. (ACELA1432)
    - - Provide a variety of non-fiction books about the woods and animals in the story for the children to look at. The teacher will create a “Gruffalo cage” for the children to read in. The children will have time afterwards to use A4 paper to design their favourite part from the story. They can then share with the rest of the class. (ACELT1783)
        
        Read the story to the class with “Emotion cards”. Ask the children to hold up the face they feel when they are on a certain page or represents the character’s feelings at various parts of the story. (ACELT1783)

        Children will write a few simple sentences and retell the story of “The Gruffalo” in their own words. The child will have space next to the paragraph to draw a picture of one of the scenes from the text. (ACELT1578)/ (WAHASS11)
- - - - The children will use "The Grufflalo" characters from the book that are glued onto popsticks to create role play scenes from the story in small groups. The teacher can change this section to real life animals throughout the learning area over the next few weeks.(ACAVAM107)
- - - - In small groups the children will come up with a design to build a house for the mouse in the story. They have to discuss how they will make it, what they will use, the size of the house and what the mouse might need inside it. They will then draw a plan of their house and design it.         Children will present to the class an animal of their choice. They can bring in a soft toy if they have it at home or a text based on the animal. This activity will be based on animals that are in real life. At the end the children can ask the child a few questions about their chosen animal. (ACELY1647), (ACELY1646)
      - Using a list of the Gruffalo’s body parts the children will follow step by step each body part numbered on the page. They will draw it on the A4 sheet, body part at a time using coloured pencils. (ACSSU005)
