An activity following this, once the book has been read a couple times, is discussing the words who, what, when, where and why and how. The teacher first asks the questions to get the children thinking then asks the children to ask the questions using those words. For example "Who are the characters?", "What did the Grufflalo look like?", "Where did the story take place?". Following on from this a few children will be chosen to stand infant of the class and hold those word cards and the others in the class will use their questions to ask them about the story. (ACELY1650)
Model to the children writing simple letters with them. This could be from “The Gruffalo” or from texts where they have been exploring animals in the wild. (ACELA1432)
