BACLOFEN:
Nursing considerations:

Route of administration: Baclofen can be administered either orally or intrathecally (directly into the cerebral spinal fluid) using a pump implanted under the skin.
Storage conditions:
Store in a well closed container, Below 40°C. Protect from Moisture and Heat.
Indications:
Baclofen tablets are useful for the alleviation of signs and symptoms of spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis, particularly for the relief of flexor spasms and concomitant pain, clonus, and muscular rigidity.
Patients should have reversible spasticity so that baclofen tablet treatment will aid in restoring residual function.
Baclofen tablets are not indicated in the treatment of skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders.
Baclofen tablets may also be of some value in patients with spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases.
The efficacy of baclofen tablets in stroke, cerebral palsy, and Parkinson's disease has not been established and, therefore, it is not recommended for these conditions.
Mechanism of action:

They act as vasodilator by vasodilation which is their main action this reduces the venous return of blood to the heart and thus reduces the heart work and lower the demand for oxygen.
They are dilating the coronary arteries, particularly if in spasm so that the blood flows though these arteries are increased.
