WRITING
Use one of the stories as a intro for students to write their own version of Matariki. Can be adapted into a story about how the stars came to the Seven Sisters.

Use a page from the story and in groups students are to prepare an item to share with the class. Can be song, story or visuals. Must be done it groups of 2 or 3

Students can learn about the seasons of the year and the best time for planting. Explore how Maori's knew it was the time harvesting and planting.

Create a Korowai as a class and discuss the meaning behind the Korowai. Explain that each student is to contribute their goals/aspirations for the new year. Students are to put their ideas down on a feather to make the classroom korowai.

Students to draw art in water color - Picture of the land and sky being connected. Showing the connection between Ranginui (sky father) and Papatüänuku (earth mother). At the center of photo create a Māori pattern that represents the students individual identity. Ensure students are scaffolded into the activity by looking at different Māori patterns and their meaning.
