Last time: bigger families
Now: smaller families
Household family structure
Last time: mainly only nuclear families (one Father, one Mother and their children)
Now: different types of families are on the rise, like single parent families and stepfamilies.
Birth rate
Last time: the birth rate was very high
Now: the birth rate is dropping
Marriage and divorce rate
Last time: the marriage rates were higher; divorce rates lower
Now: marriage rates lower; divorce rates higher
Transnational and interethnic marriages
Last time: not as common, people will try to marry within their own ethnicities
Now: people are becoming more open minded to inter-marrying other races, therefore there are more occurences
Family income
Last time: lower family income, but cost of living was cheaper
Now: higher family income, but cost of living is more costly
Family members education level
Last time: less people were educated, and their education level was not very high.
Now: almost everyone is given a chance for education, and the education level is usually at least tertiary level
Time spent with families
Last time: the industry was not as competitive as now, so they had more time to spend with their families
Now: the society has more high achievers and everyone wants to work harder to be the top, and this sacrifices their family time
