Photosynthesis
Chlorophyll: This is the pigment of plants. This makes the leaf or the plant the color that it is. It absorbs energy from light.
Glucose: This is the main type of sugar and also one of the major sources of food that we get from our body. We get glucose from eating.
Oxygen: A colorless gas that we make in our body. This is breathing in and out. When you breath in your taking in oxygen from the air and when your breath out your letting oxygen out.
Thylakoid: A membrane that contains chlorophyll and is in the chloroplast. Thylakoid makes up the stacks called the grana.
ATP: ATP is a high-energy molecule found in every cell. Its job is to store and supply the cell with needed energy.
Carbon Dioxide: Carbon dioxide is a gas found in our atmosphere and it is a waste product that is in our bodies. It is also called CO2.
An organism that manufactures its own food from substances. Most autotrophs, such as green plants use light for energy.
Grana: A stack of membrane structure that is in the chloroplast of the cell. We can also refer to them as "A stack of pancakes".
NADPH:During the Calvin cycle, carbon dioxide is "fixed" using energy in the form of ATP and NADPH which are made in the first stage of photosynthesis.
Chloroplast: This is an organelle found in plant cells and it absorbs sun light and water to make food for the plant.
Dark Reaction: This is any chemical reaction that happens during the Calvin cycle and happens in the stroma.
Light Reaction: It is energy that comes from sun light by chlorophyll. This occurs in the thylakoid membrane.
Photosynthesis: This is the process of creating glucose from water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight. Plants go through photosynthesis but humans do not.
Stroma: This is the supportive tissue in photosynthesis. This is the stuff surrounding everything like the grana and chloroplast.
Water: Water is something people use everyday. It is less dense than ice and is absolutely necessary for plants to live. They need water to survive.
