What Happened
On June 8th of 1964, Gerald Gault was arrested on allegedly prank calling a neighbor and on that call using fowl language and suggestive comments that made said neighbor uncomfortable. Upon calling law enforcement, Gerald Gault was arrested without the presence or notification or his parents who both had been at work at the time. It wasn't until late that evening that the Gaults found that Gerald was taken into custody.
There was in fact a hearing on June 9th, although after the hearing, Gerald was sent back into custody before being released a few days later with a notification of another court hearing on the 15th of the same month, although the difference in this hearing was the Judge stated that Gerald would be detained in a juvenile facility until the age of 21 although the Gaults did in fact seek a change in this decision through the Arizona supreme court and the United States Supreme court.
when
The incident involving the arrest of Gerald Gault took place on the Monday of June 8, in 1964 although he wasn´t arrested until about 10 that morning along with one of his friends
Court Trials/Hearings
Geralds first hearing took place on June 9th although this hearing held no witnesses, was not recorded, and no one was sworn in before testifying, deeming it informal as its not really understood as to what exactly happened inside the courtroom.
On June 15th yet another hearing took place although it was again not a recorded hearing and not fully understood to the testimony that Gerald gave. What is known in the case is that Judge Mcgee sentenced Gerald to confinement in the State Industrial School until the age of 21
After their appeal was denied by the Arizona supreme court ending their voices with an agreement on the Superior court ruling, the Gaults took the case to the United States supreme court
Upon being looked at in the US supreme court, Gerald was found not guilty based on the Juvenile Court's violation of the 14th amendment (Notification of charges, notification to the parents and suspect to the right to council, and safety against self-incrimination in court)
