Respiration
Aerobic
Happens in the MITOCHONDRIA
Produces a lot of ATP PER GLUCOSE
REQUIRES OXYGEN
Used when HEART RATE and BREATHING RATE rise
Anaerobic
Happens in the CYTOPLASM
Produces less ATP PER GLUCOSE
DOESN'T REQUIRE OXYGEN
Used during FIRST 2 MINUTES of excersise
Anaerobic respiration in humans
glucose → lactic acid (+ energy released)
E.g 100m sprint
Anaerobic respiration in plants
glucose → ethanol + carbon dioxide (+ energy released)
E.g waterlogged roots
Aerobic respiration in humans and plants
glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water (+ energy)
E.g long distance runners
