What happened?
15 year old, Gerald Gault, was arrested in April of 1967 for making a lewd phone call to an elderly woman. Gault was wrongfully sentenced to 6 years in prison when an adult would have spent a maximum of 2 months and a fine of $50. Gaults parents took the case to the State Supreme Court and eventually to the U.S Supreme Court

Backstory?
Gault had previously been arrested for being with a friend of his when he stole a wallet from another person. He was on probation when he was arrested in April for lewd phone calls.

Outcome
Gault's parents took the case to the Supreme Court in Arizona which virtually ignored the case. His parents decided to try the Supreme Court of the U.S and eventually Gault was released before his term of 6 years was over because they decided he was denied his right to due process.
