Subtractive Manufacturing
COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL(CNC)
Process in which pre-programmed computer software dictates the movement if the tools/cutter while it removes materials from a raw stock/material.
ADVANTAGES
The process is programmable
Can cut on hard-metallic material
Smooth surface finishing
CHALLENGES
Workpiece needs to be clamped
Only the top part can be machined
Deciding how to hold the part on the machine table
Deciding the depth of cut, the tool-bit size
Limitation of tool-bit (cutter diameter) size to produce small details
Creating NC program
Manual Programming
Can be generated from Computer Aided Manufacturing System
Workflow
