Chapter 6: Eschatology
6.1-The Paschal Candle
The Paschal candle is an important feature of the Easter Vigil ceremony, which is celebrated the night before Easter Sunday.
The candle is also lit at baptisms and funerals.It is lit at baptisms to show Jesus the light of the world entering the people being baptised, and during funerals it is lit to show that the deceased person has joined Christ.

6.11-The Funeral Rite
Reception of the Body-A body is taken to church in its coffin. At the church doors the coffin is sprinkled with holy water. The coffin is placed beside the lit Paschal candle.
The Funeral Mass-The priest holds a Mass (often called a requiem). The readings at the Mass focus on the effects of Chris'ts resurrection.
The Committal and Burial or Cremation-Holy water is sprinkled over the coffin. The priest waves smoke from burning incense over the coffin. A prayer is said for the mourners. At the burial or cremation, the Lord's Prayer is said.

6.5-The Four Last Things
Death-For Christians, death is a transition to a new phase of life. When the body dies, the soul continues to live on.
Judgement-Catholics believe that after they die they will be judged by God, who will consider everything a person has done in their lifetime.
Heaven-If people are judged favorably, they will enter heaven which is the state of eternal happiness in the presence of God
Hell-If people are judged unfavorably, they will enter hell which is the state of eternal separation from God.
6.10-The Last Rites
The Anointing of the Sick-The anointing of the sick is the sacrament centred around the action of anointing a sick person with holy oil. During the sacrament, there is a reading from the Bible, and prayers for the sick and the Our Father is said.
Commendation of the Dying-The commendation of the dying is a short service centred around the dying person receiving their last Holy Communion, which is called Viaticum.
