The situational irony used in the giver is the fact that the book attempts to make the village look appealing to most at first in the book, however, when we get to later pages, such as 186-188, we can see that Jonas's father had killed a baby, simply because the baby didn't weigh as much as others, which then in an ironic twist, the village then turns to a dystopian land that hides the fact that every person in the giver are going to die, and are trapped in this village, as if they were to escape, they would most likely be hunted down, and killed. -Kyle D.
I agree with this because at when I was reading the beginning of the book I first felt as if the community was a nice place but as the story progressed, it began to change into the opposite.-Brendan DiBlasi
