Lab Findings

-
Bone marrow will try to compensate & will increase red cell production, Increase reticulocytes released into the blood
-
absence of haptoglobins is very apparent in intravascular haemolysis. Free Hb binds to haptoglobins and this complex is removed by reticulo endothelial system
-
Extracelluar haemolysis
-
-
if red cells are damaged, bilirubin levels (particularly unconjugated bilirubin) levels increase, bilirubin deposited in tissues and jaundice takes place

Definition
-
An increase in red cell destruction. Bone Marrow can compensate for initial loss and may not been seen till lifespan reduced to 30 days
