"But we ain't going nowhere."
shows how Hushpuppy is a
tough young lady.
Hushpuppy is show to be more
powerful as she is running when
all the other girls were being carried.
We are aligned with Hushpuppy
throughout this scene as we follow
her around, and she controls her
own story.
Social/Political
The celebration shows us that the
Bathtub community is very close.
The run down houses show us that
the people living in the Bathtub are poor.
"Ain't that ugly over there." says
Hushpuppy's dad while looking at the
civilization on the other side of the wall.
Peaceful and isolated shot of the Bathtub
and boat on the river is calming. It
contrasts with the world behind the wall.
The fireworks during the celebration show
that the people living in the Bathtub are
happy living there and are having fun.

Is it a good thing for them to go to
the hospital or not? -

Hushpuppy with her hair up and a
little girly dress. They dress her up
to fit the female classical stereotype.
Telling her what she should be like.
Social/Political
We see and feel what Hushpuppy
does leading us to disliking the hospital
as well.
We don't see the worker's faces and this
dehumanises them. It makes them look
more untrusthworthy as we dont know who
they are.
Binary oppositions makes the hospital
negative and the Bathtub positive.
Low-key lighting in the Bathtub makes
Hushpuppy look powerful and though.
High-key lighting with muted colours in
the hospital makes Hushpuppy look weak.
Aligned with Hushpuppy as we are
disoriented in the hospital and lost,
much like she is.
