Okonkwo and his friend Obierika agreed on things such as the weakness of young people in their village and the trees that were being tapped down. However, Okonkwo's killing of Ikemefuma created a rift between them. Okonkwo no longer understood Obierika, and Obierika no longer understood Okonwo. This can be proven when Okonkwo said, "I cannot understand why you refused to come with us to kill that boy." Later in the argument, Obierika stated, "What you have done will not please the Earth. It is the kind of action for which the goddess wipes out whole families." Therefore, change played a role in separating two friends who had once thought alike. Thanks to this change, they couldn't communicate the same. -JCD
