Networking
Network devices use a variety of protocols and algorithms to exchange information and transport data to its intended endpoint. Endpoints include: Servers
Personal computer
Phones
Many types of networking hardware
A computer network is a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources. The most common resource shared today is connection to the Internet. Other shared resources can include a printer or a file server.
Advantages of Networking:
you can easily share data between different users, or access it remotely if you keep it on other connected devices.
using network-connected devices like printers, scanners or sharing software between multiple users, saves money.
Security is good - users cannot see other users' files unlike on stand-alone machines.
Data is easy to backup as all the data is stored on the file server.
Disadvantages of Networking:
If the file server breaks down the files on the file server become inaccessible. Email might still work if it is on a separate server. The computers can still be used but are isolated.
Viruses can spread to other computers throughout a computer network.
There is a danger of hacking, particularly with wide area networks.
Purchasing the network cabling and file servers can be expensive.

A LAN covers a small area such as one site or building, e.g. a school or a college.
A WAN covers a large geographical area.
Most WANs are made from several LANs connected together. A WAN is connected via cables, telephone lines and satellites, they are just some examples. WAN is used by international organisations.

Items of Hardware
A Terminator prevents signals reflecting back down the bus. The bus joins all workstations, servers, and printers in 1 cable
Is connected to the device in a series or to the node which is a point of connection within a network.
-
A network internet card (NIC) is a circuit board or card that's installed in a comp so it can be connected to a network
-
A hub is a commom connection point for devices in a network, Also contains multiple ports and hub allows network connection.

Repeaters are used in transmission systems to regenerate analog or digital signals distorted by transmission loss.
