Skinfold method
Definition
• This field technique involves measuring the skinfold fat thickness at one or more sites and using the values obtained to estimate body density, relative body fat, or fat-free mass.
• Skinfold measures double fold of skin and subcutaneous adipose with a calliper, measuring the linear distance.

FFM & LBM
Fat-free mass is composed of all of the body's nonfat tissue including bone, muscle, organs, and connective tissue.
Lean body mass includes all fat-free mass along with essential fat. Lean body mass is difficult to measure so the fat mass/fat-free mass model is most often used.

These newer methods allow greater detailed analysis where FFM can be measured rather than just predicted.
