2.4 Understand Media Access Control
2.4.2. identify the various types of data link frame
Frame and Header
A frame is data that is transmitted between network points as a unit complete with addressing and necessary protocol control information
usually transmitted serial bit by bit and contains a header field and a trailer field that "frame" the data
LAN and Wan frames
Ethernet Frames
Each Ethernet frame starts with an Ethernet header, which contains destination and source MAC addresses as its first two fields.
preceded by a preamble and start frame delimiter (SFD), which are both part of the Ethernet packet at the physical layer.
PPP frames(Point-to-Point Protocol)
Used to establish a direct connection between two nodes.
It connects two routers directly without any host or any other networking device in between.
It can provide connection authentication, transmission encryption, and compression.
Wireless frames
Defined as IEEE 802.11and has three categories of frames:
Management frames
Used for initial communication between stations and access point.
Control frames
Used for accessing the channel and acknowledging frames.
Data frames
Used for carrying data and control information.
