Front

Cold Fronts
when a colder air mass moves toward a warmer air mass. The cold air, which is denser than the warm air, pushes underneath the warm air mass.
Warm Fronts
When less dense air moves toward colder, denser air. The warm air rises as it glides above the cold air mass.

Air mass
Large bodies of air that have uniform temperature, humidity, and pressure.
Classification
Artic Air Masses - forming over Siberia and the Artic. Contain massively cold air and during winter the temperature can reach -40°
Continental Polar air masses- The air is dry. Fast-moving air masses and bring cold temperatures in the winter and cool weather in summer
Maritime Polar air mass- Forming over the Northern Atlantic and Pacific Ocean. Temperature is cold and humid. Often bring clouds and rainy weather.
Continental tropical air mass- Hot and dry. They bring clear skies and high temperature. Usually form during summer
Maritime Tropical Air Mass- Form over the western Atlantic ocean, the gulf of Mexico and the eastern pacific ocean. Hot and humid.
High-pressure system
A large body of circulating air with high pressure at its center and lower pressure outside of the system

A violent, whirling column of air in contact with the ground.

Violent winter storm characterised by freezing temperatures, strong winds, and blowing snow.
