7 AC instrument & Eqmnt
- ICAO stds restated as IR-OPS. Operator MUST Comply
- Itms that don't need formal apprvl, approved iaw ETSO (European Technical Stds Orders)
- MMEL - Produced by Designer/Manufacturer: apprvd by SoD - List of U/S parts you can fly without (inside a/c)
- MEL - Derived from MMEL - Produced by Operator apprved by NAuth - Never less restrictive but can be more
- EX: when CAA req IMMEDIATE amendment of MEL, Optr must amend MEL within 30 days ELSE 90 (not-immediate)
- If smthg U/S MEL will tell Cdr if 'operational restrictions', allowed duration of U/S or do dispatch!
- CDL - Configuration Deviation List - List of U/S parts you can fly without (outside of a/c)
- Fuses: Greater of 10% for each rating or 3
- Class A (>5700kg or >9 seats)
- Windshield wipers
- Lights
- Alt Alert Sys (aural when approaching alt or deviating)
- GPWS & TAWS
- TCAS2 ( >19 seats!!!)
- AWR (all pressurised AC or unpress but class a)
- RadAlt if >27,000kg
- Lights
-Day: Anti-Col, instrument, pax cabin TORCH 4 EACH CREW ACCESSIBLE FROM SEAT
-Night: Day + Nav lights (Green right + Red, 110°), 2 landing light (or 1 light 2 filaments)
-Lights on large AC (PPT)
- Min Flt Eqmnt - Day VFR: Mag Cmps, ASI, VSI, T&slip (or TCo-ord), AI, DI, Clock, OAT gauge, heated pitot (Class A)
- 2 pilots duplicate instru. except Clock, Mag Compass
- Min Flt Eqmnt: Night & IFR: 2 altimeters, ASI w/ heated pitot, 2 independent static press. sys., transmit button on control wheel, chart holder, Mach meter if rqd
- Class A = Stdby AI with 30min battery
- Single pilot = A/P with Alt hold, Hdg hold
- Ops in Icing Conds: AC must be certified for ice ops
- Interphone = all multicrew & if >15,000kg or >19 seats = independent of PA
- Be @ each crew stn, aural & visual alerts, show normal vs emergency call, 2way fight deck->cabin & flight deck->grnd
- PA: >19 seats = everywhere + toilets
- CVR
- MTOM >5700kg - last 2 hrs
- Multi-Engine Turbine <5700kg - last 30mins
- FDR
57000kg/>9seats (>1988) = 25hrs (Else 10hr) + Auto Start/Stop
- Seat for >= 2yo
- Flt Deck Door if >19seats = 'Crew Only' + LOCAKBLE
- First Aid Kits - <100-> <500 = 1->5 THEN >500 = 6
- Em. Med Kit = >30seat if >60min from med assist.
- Kit must be secure, inspect & replenished regular + Cdr ensure drugs only administered by qualified ppl
- First Aid O2 = press. AC @ >25000ft, min of 2 & at least for 2% of pax when cabin depress. to 8-15000ft
- EX ALWAYS!!! 2% of pax CARRIED (min 1 person) but at least 2 dispensing units!!!!
- EX: Mass flow of 4 litres STPD per minute!!
O2 Supply rqmnts
- EX: For operating above 25000ft flight crew must have quick donning mask
- Unpress AC
- All flight crew for entire time >10000ft
- All cabin crew + 10% pax any period >30min @ 10-13000ft
- All cabin crew + 10% pax any period >30min @ 10-13000ft
- Press. AC
- All flight crew for entire time >13000ft & any period >30min 10-13000ft
- 30 min supply reqd if AC not certified for >25000ft
- 2h supply reqd if AC certified >25000ft
- All cabin crew for entire time >13000ft + any period >30min 10-13000ft (min 30min supply)
- 100% of pax entire time >15000ft
- 30% of pax entire time 14-15000ft
- 10% of pax entire time 10-14000 ft
- NB: If >25000 ft or unable to descend to 13000ft in 4min - oxy masks auto deploy by cabin alt = 14000ft & must be 10% more dispensing units than the seats
- EX: CREW PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIPMENT (PBE) - Required for aircraft >5700kg or >19 pax seats - Last minimum 15 minutes
- Fire Extinguishers - EX ALWAYS!!
- EX: AT LEAST 1 HALON ON FLIGHT DECK!!!
- EX: ...IN AIRCRAFT = Flight deck + Cabin
- EX: ...IN CABIN = Cabin only!!!
- + FE's for CABIN (Based on Table of MAX SEATING)
- 30 = 1, 60 = 2 (At least 1 Halon)
- 200-600 = 3-6 (At least 2 Halon)
600 = 7 (At least 2 Halon)
- Crash Axe & crowbar
5700 or >9seats = at least 1 on flight deck
200 seats = 2nd in rear galley
- EX: Break-In point: RED = light bkgrnd, YELLOW = Dark bkgrnd
- ESCAPE SLIDES
- If no escape chutes the emergency exits must not be:
1.83 metres (6ft) above grnd with gear down, or after failure of 1+ gear legs
- Chutes not reqd for over-wing exits if this escape route ends <1.83 metres (6ft) from the ground
- Escape device required for flight crew in high cockpits
- Megaphones - ONLY if >60 seats: 1 unless >99 THEN 2
- Em. Lighting = >9seats incl. independent power
19 seats incl. cabin lights, floor lvl lights in exit areas, lit exit signs @ night lights reqd 4 over-wing exits where eqmnt for descent needed
- Auto ELT - LEARN
- Life jackets if >50miles from coast or To/App over alot of water
- EX: Life-rafts & Survival ELTs
- AT LEAST 2 ELT Reqd if
- >120min crz speed OR 400nm from land WHICHEVER LESSER + IF AC CAN CONTINUE WITH ENG. FAILURE
- OR
- >30mins crz or 100nm from land WHICH EVER LESS
- Addtnl Survival eqmnt if SAR difficult = Pyrotechnic signal + At leasst 1 ELT
- Addtnl Surv. Eqmnt no reqd if close to area where SAR nor difficult i.e. CS25 = 90min crz speed from emergency landing

- Approval to transport DG from NAuthority
- Crew training valid 24mths
- DG Records kept 3yrs
- Acceptance Check List = Used 4 checking external appearance of pkgs/DG & associated doco to check all reqmnts have been met
- Emergency response guide for FLIGHT CREW (RED), for CABIN CREW (BLUE)
- “For Cargo Aircraft Only” sticker = cannot be put on pax AC
- EX: Freight Container = container 4 transport of radioactive matls*
- UN Number = 4 digits assigned by UN to ID a substance or a group of substances
- Shipper is responsible that cargo ready for flight by checking the TIs, packaging, doco, etc
- NOTOC - Notice to Captain incl: Ship name, UN#, Haz Class, qty and location on AC, Radioactive cat. and Transport Indx
- Incidents & Accidents must be reported to ATC ASAP & within 72 hours of occurrence or discovery
- Classification - 9

9 Pre-Flight Planning
- EX: IR OPS which incorporate ICAO Annex 6 Part 1
- EX: And EASA Common Technical requirements
- Defns
- T/O Alt: A/D for landing if not poss. at T/O A/D due to WX/perf conds. etc
- En-Route Alt: A/D enroute for landing after abnormal or emergency
- EX!!: ETOPS Enroute Alt: an ADEQUATE AeroD which additionally at expected time of use has AN ATS FACILITY + AT LEAST 1 INSTRU. APP. PROCED
- Dest. Alt.
- ETOPS: Extended Range Twin Engine Operational Performance Standard
- 3% En-route Alternate (ERA): Alt selected for purposes of ⬇️ contingency fuel to 3%
- Oprtr must ensure: FP & ATS used
- FP: On landing U MUST CLOSE FP BY THE MOST EXPEDITIOUS MEANS!!
